Just a note on traveling with ferrets.
 
I have absolutely no proof of the next statement BUT it is something that I
believe is important.  When you are going to travel with ferrets, or any
animal for that matter, I would suggest you take a supply of drinking water,
for them, from the same source that they normally get their water from.
This would most likely be the kitchen faucet for most people.  As most
everyone can attest, the water varies greatly from area to area.  This is
especially true if you go from drinking well water to going to a major city
and drinking city water.  I would suggest taking enough water for the entire
trip.  If this is not possible then I would suggest buying "spring water"
and use that for the kids.
 
A lot of you know the following but there are also some that don't.  When
you buy water, from the store, there is three main types.  They are drinking
water, spring water, and distilled water.  Distilled water has been written
about so I won't spend any more time on it.  There is a MAJOR difference
between drinking water and spring water.  Drinking water is usually city
water that has been run trough a purifier.  In fact if you look, most of the
bottles will have the source on it.  Look close and you might fine that the
source is Chicago Municipal Water Supply.  So this type of water is still
going to have some chemicals in it.  It is my understanding that for the
manufacturer to state that the product is spring water that it MUST be from
a natural source and not a municipal water supply.  Most of the spring water
comes from a artisan well.  Therefor if you always buy spring water you will
not have to worry about clorine, or the like, being in the water.
 
Always try to buy water by the gallon.  You might find a pint of spring
water cost $1.49 or a gallon, of the same brand of spring water, cost $1.79.
You can get a gallon of spring water at Wal-mart for 79 cents last time I
checked.
 
By supplying your ferrets with the same water you remove the chance of them
getting a upset tummy because of the water change.
 
Now you can also debate the differences of spring water.  A spring in the
Rockies is going to be hard water.  I spring in Tennessee is most likely
going to be much more of a soft water.  Since I grew up at the foot of the
mountains in Idaho if I can't chew my water because of the mineral content,
then I don't like it <grin>.  We all have our own preferences.
 
By the way, if you are wondering.  I give my kids only bottled spring water.
