Greetings all--
Several weeks ago I had stomach flu for a good week. Shortly after I got
it, one of our ferrets came down with what looks like ECE--loose green
stool, etc. Our vet said it is possible to pass stomach flu to ferrets, and
since then I've heard from two other folks who had this particular flu and
their ferrets got it too.

Here's my problem: it's been more than 10 days, and her stool is still
loose. I've now treated at least 8 ECE ferrets (mine and rescues), and have
never had a critter go so long without the stool firming up. She's about 2
1/2, a small MF girl. She's getting vet-approved amounts of Kaopectate,
oral antibiotics, and Immodium 3X daily, and also 3X daily she gets at least
a one-teaspoon feeding syringe each of Pedialyte, Sustical, and Duck Soup
(made with A/D). She seems to be getting sufficient fluids, and is eating
and drinking of her own accord. She's eating Totally Ferret as well, plus
FerretVite.

She acts like she feels OK but not great. My worry is that her stool still
is loose and she's slowly loosing weight. I hate to start the Ringers sub-Q
but will do it. Any other suggestions to help or other directions in which
to look? She's seen the vet twice about this. Could it be something other
than stomach flu or ECE?

Does anything else cause a loose green-yellow grainy stool? Has anybody
else seen a ferret go this long with a loose stool? No vomiting that we've
seen. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! Feel fre to reply to
me on the list or privately at [log in to unmask]
