I'm hoping for some very helpful help here or I'm going to have to give up
Baby to a shelter. I've already talked with the shelter owner a few times
but each time I change my mind and decide to give Baby a few more days to
get the hang of liter pans. It's not that he never uses them it just that
he would as soon do his duties wherever he is standing as use one. Almost
from day one he has made my son's bed one of his favorites places to use,
I've had to order a new mattress, it is coming next Thurs. so it is sink or
swim by then for him..... I've never known or heard of another ferret doing
this, Baby will go ANYWHERE on ANYTHING. I've tried putting his sleeping
things around where I don't want him to go as well as blankets, sheets,
towels, sweat shirts, and even food/water bowls. Nothing has helped, he
goes right on top of the cloth things and has even pooped in his water bowl.
He also doesn't use the pan in the cage, ever, he will go right under the
water bottle or next to the food bowl to avoid using the pan so caging him
hasn't helped at all. I don't know what else to do, I can live with a few
accidents but he is destroying furniture and carpeting not to mention his
poop is the kind that if you look at it to long it will dissolve right into
whatever it is on. No big cigar like stools here unfortunately. I've
changed litters and pans, went from the small corners pans to a few
rectangle cat size pans, picking him up and putting him in the pan when he
was backing up, nothing has helped, I don't know what else to do.
This guy came to me as a rescue about 2 months ago and he is all around a
great fert, very friendly, playful, not a nip out of him ever. My children
are quite upset and refuse to even discuss finding another home for him but
I can't keep this up for much longer.
Any and all suggestions are going to be greatly appreciated,
Deanna
