I don't think our colonists ever saw a Black Footed Ferret.  Please,
someone correct me if I am wrong here, but the DFF lives exclusively on
the Great Plains...its food source was/is the prairie dog.  I don't
believe our settlers made it to the Great Plains until the mid to late
1700's.
