Hello Lorraine, Everyone,

Yes, it is in fact being written-- sorry for the delay, but I moved and
started a new job just as I was volunteering to do this. I've actually done
a lot of work on it in the last week. What I'm working on now is a set of
pages on dealing with serious problem biters, adults with behavioral
problems who require some extra work-- sounds like you know about these,
Lorraine :) I may actually have something up for review at the end of the
weekend, posted for now on my site at geocities (although with Halloween and
the X-Files premiere, I can't make an absolute promise). It could certainly
go to Ferret Central later if people think that's a good idea, but while
it's in "draft" form I'd rather keep visitors limited to people here (and of
course other ferret people who aren't here but you think might have valuable
input).

On where to put the site/having a FAQ on problem biters at all: when I
brought up the idea, I received a lot of enthusiastic private email, and
some on the list as well. Nobody was against the idea of having such a FAQ
per se, but some people voiced concerns that I feel as well about being
very, very careful about public discussions of ferret biting behavior.
That's why I'd love to have essentially a review process of the site once
I've made it available on line-- of course I have ultimate authorship and
ultimate responsibility for what's in it, but I want it to be helpful, not
hurtful, for ferret people. Some people have sent me stories, tips, etc on
their problem kids, and I'd love to have more from people, especially the
success stories, of course :)

I know that Trish Curtis is producing what might be a really similar page--
are you out there, Trish? Do you want to discuss this with me?-- but I hope
that the two pages will be different enough to provide ferret people with
more than one resource on this issue. I learned about her page after
starting work on mine, which is kind of a labor of love for Cully's sake, so
I've kept at it. If I can write mine in more FAQ style rather than article
style, I hope that the two pages will turn out to be very complementary.

Finally, general nipping FAQ: I wound up with this one too somehow (boy that
Pam Greene woman is good at delegating :) but because I really wanted to
work on the problem page, that one's been taking priority. I'm happy to
write a nipping FAQ, although I think there are actually already some really
good resources out there. Maybe all Ferret Central needs is a short
introduction on why baby ferrets nip, a quick summary of training
techniques, and then links to all the other resources? What do people
think?

Anyway, I'm glad Lorraine asked about this, because I'd been meaning to make
an update for a while now. Hopefully Monday's FML will have an announcement
of where the site is temporarily located, and please, send me problem biter
stories, techniques, tips, etc and also tips on how you keep from going nuts
dealing with a serious biter-- one of the aspects of my page is how
difficult the training process can be for the trainer. As Lorraine said,
sometimes you're ready to blow a fuse, but you know you can't... Thanks,
everyone, for help on this,

Regina
and Amelia and Cully too!
