Well, we've taken our ferrets to visit my mom on a few occasions.  My mom
has a siberian husky/german shepard mix.  On most things with this dog, her
husky half has dominance.
 
Since a pup, her prey instincts have been quite strong.  Any rats, mice,
chipmunks, and squirrels that cross her path should beware.  Because of a
neighbor, my mom, at one point, had a serious problem with rats overrunning
her barn, cars, etc.  My mom's dog hunted the rats and I can testify to her
extreme speed and lethalness in dispatching the rats.
 
Although not left unsupervised together, this same dog never seemed to be
interested in hunting our ferrets.  We didn't let the ferrets run
willy-nilly about the house, invading her space.  We kept them harnessed and
let her see them.  She didn't seem like she wanted to hurt them at all.  She
was curious about them.  I think she associated the ferrets with my husband
and myself since she was well-acquainted to their scent on us.  I'm sure
this helped the introductions.
 
I'd take any introductions slowly and carefully.  Learn some of the dog's
behaviors before introducing your ferrets to him.  Perhaps getting him used
to their scent will make introductions smoother.

And people, who opposed AB 363, were worried about the damage ferrets would
cause to local waterfowl and wildlife.  I think their attention should have
been directed elsewhere.  ;)
