Q: ferret with spine injury

A ferret owner from Quebec would like to know what additional or different
treatments could be given to her ferret that broke its spine.  I assume it
was hairline fracture since the ferret is not paralysed.  He has a little
mobility in its back legs but he drags them.
 
Her vet gave cortisone.  Is there something than she or her vet can do?
Either to make the ferret more comfortable or recover more quickly?
