Hi everyone, I've got a real problem and if anyone can help I need help
ASAP. My four year old albino was just diagnosed a few weeks ago with
diabetes. Anyone with any info or experience please e-mail, time is of the
essence.

I've been carrying on a 24 hour vidual since his diagnosis and neither he or
I are about to give up until there is nothing else left to do. I started
him on Humulin N, 2 units, twice a day, sugar was still high and he
developed keytones. We then changed to ILETIN, PORK, 2 units twice a day,
then went to 2 units 3 times a day. His keytones disappeared and his sugar
got a little lower, but on the second day he developed a reaction ,
hypoglycemia(too much insulin) after the second shot. So we then went to 2
units in the morning, 1 unit 8 hours later and 2 units 8 hours after that.
So far his keytones are back, sugar is still high and there is no sign of
regulating him. Because of the keytones, I have been hydrating him at home
with an IV so he won't dehydrate and hand feeding him Iams cat food. (don't
want to give him anything with sugar) We are going to the vets on Monday to
run blood glucose level, I am bringing him back every couple of hours ,
rather than leaving him there for the day because of the stress factor, also
he is not used to being in a cage, so that alone would be stressful.

He started out at 4.5 lbs., he wasn't fat, he is very large, he is now down
to 3.6 and holding. I weigh him on a fish scale that has a tray on it.

He doesn,t even wake up when I give him his shots, so I know they don't
hurt, and as of right now he still has some quality of life and alot of
fight, so I don,t want anyone to think he is suffering or going through alot
of painful procedures.

I do know I really love him and will do anything I can to help him, but both
my vet and myself are running out of options. My vet is great, we are
trying to cut down on the vet visits because of the stress factor, she has
come in on her days off and even given me her home phone number. The
charges have been minimal, she only charges me for meds. Some body please
tell me why ferrets get dog distemper, kennel cough, ect., people flue and
colds and yet the only protocal for diabetes for ferrets is cats?

Please help!!!!

PS I would like to talk to Gary and the gang, don't remember his e-mail.
Also does anyone know how I can get in touchwith Dr. williams also.

Pleas everyone ask around and try to help before it is too late!!!

Thank You Carolyn Kingeter
