I found this on the CNN web site.  Anyone understand the ferret reference???
I sure do not.
 
"Stoats, also known as ermine, head the list of kiwi predators, killing
chicks within a month of their leaving the nest, McLennan said.  Ferrets
were also beginning to kill off remaining pockets of kiwi in Northland.  The
real problem, McLennan said, lies in finding funding for the remedies
scientists already have, or for providing more habitat area."
