Hi FML family:
Since the Michigan incident, the only two FML readers from West Virginia
(Mindy and Chris) were curious about our laws here regarding rabies testing.
I called the Department of Agriculture and talked to an elderly man who was
a doctor. He informed me there are no laws regarding ferrets, only cat and
dog and the cat and dog law states if vaccinated, quarantine. He said there
has to be common sense when these things happened. He said if I had my four
ferrets vaccinated I should see no problem. He was very kind, talked my leg
off and had even followed the Michigan case. He said "sometimes the powers
that be do not use common sense". Are we lucky here in this state or what?
I'm not comfortable with this. What do you think? If there is no law are
my babies ok? I am very careful but one never knows when a nice gentleman
may be looking at one of mine resting on my arm and accidentally scrape his
hand on a fang. Get the picture?
Chris and I have been thinking of starting a ferret club here in West
Virginia. I found some stuff on the Internet (I believe from Pam Green). I
want others to know proper care, feeding, exercise, etc. I'm sure to get
bombarded with lots of info for asking, but, any ideas??
When I called for information on the WV laws I talked to our local pound and
asked if they ever get ferrets that no one wants. I was relieved to hear
no, they never get a ferret.
Ferret people are special people. After trying to read the third edition of
the FML today, I wrote many quotes people had written down to keep for
myself. The things that were written regarding Kodo came from the heart of
so many.
