Yes, in Beautician and the Beast I believe she rescues a ferret, and it's
there because she is teaching night school at the local high school in the
science lab.  Also, in the movie Short Circuit, there is a shot of Alley
Sheedy being filmed by a TV news camera while she is standing outside her
front door, and she is holding a ferret.  Sable I think, thought it was
cute, didnt' know if it had been mentioned before.  Oh well, Keep dooking
everyone!
