Dr. Kathleen Smith, State Public Health Veterinarian has announced that Ohio
will henceforth recommend a 10-day quarantine period for ferrets in bite
cases. Notification will be sent to the state's local health departments
next week. (The delay is due to office shuffling going on now--Dr. Smith
told me her calls are currently going to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases
office!)
Ohio residents, call you local health departments (look them up in the
yellow pages under Government) to alert them to the changes now! Let them
know they will receive notification from the state shortly and to call Dr.
Smith if they have any questions. Make sure they are planning to follow
these new guidelines!
