Hello all:

I have received numerous e-mails recently about Pet Insurance. A few months
back I tried to research into finding out if there were any companies that
insured ferrets. Basically, I've run into nothing but walls. I wanted to
send this message out to let everyone know that I haven't given up, but I
also don't know what to do at this point.

Basically, what I found were five pet insurance plans. These are:

Pet Plan Insurance: Only in Canada, I didn't find out much more since most
of my inquiries were for the states.

Universal Pet Health Network: Do not insure ferrets.

American Pet Care plan: Sent an e-mail but have not gotten a response back
as to whether they insure ferrets or not at this time.

Anipals: Currently only insures cats and dogs.

Veterinary Pet Insurance: Do not insure ferrets and have no intentions of
doing so at this time (I posted their response to me a few weeks ago...I was
not pleased by it at all).

The wierd thing is that back when I first researched this, one company DID
e-mail me and say that they insured ferrets, but their coverage didn't
extend to Pennsylvania (don't know why). Now in this round of research, I
have found nobody who insures them...perhaps it was American Pet Care, but
they aren't returning my e-mail this time. When I get a response, I will
let you all know. The plan doesn't seem to be too bad, it's a little
"different" but I've requested that they send me more information IF they
insure ferrets.

So folks, I don't know what to say at this point. Last time I did this the
e-mail responses I got were not very encouraging. I sent a very long and
detailed letter to Veterinary Pet Insurance, explaining the medical needs of
ferrets and told them about the interest that members of the FML had
expressed in being able to insure their pets. I even invited them to join
the FML to see firsthand how we feel about ferrets and to learn more about
their health. Their letter back was really insulting in that it was short
and curt. Perhaps this is because they are based in California? I don't
know.

I have not given up on this project, but my time is more devoted to the
IFRIC project, and my upcoming wedding (one month to go! e-gads!) and the
fact that I don't even know where to go at this point to try and convince
these companies that ferrets are pets too.

If anyone has spare time and has a clue how to proceed, I would love to hear
from you. I have nine of my own, and would love to be able to insure them.
I am sorry that I don't have better news to pass along.
