We all share in a great sadness today. With me, my family and co-workers
express their sympathy for the Jacobs family, and their disgust for the
actions of Bay County and the inactions of Governor John Engler and the
state of Michigan.

My disappointment is for the judiciary, who allowed this travesty to
continue despite overwhelming evidence in Kodo's favor, and instead relied
solely on the judgement of Animal Control and their attorneys.

My disdain is for the apparent lack of concern shown by Governor Engler, for
his failure to comment personally on the situation and his cowardice in
claiming inability to influence this matter.

My anger is for Animal Control, in their refusal to accept scientific fact,
their insistence that only their methods were the correct ones, and their
inexcusable inability to even consider viable alternatives.

My most heartfelt outrage is reserved for Animal Control's final act of
indecency - their refusal even to allow the Jacobs family to bid their
beloved pet goodbye.

This heinous act must not pass unnoticed. Those responsible through their
deeds and apathy must be held accountable, through our best available legal
and civil resources.

Thanks are due to the GLFA, WNEM-5, Sal, TLE, Bud Jackson, and to all who
helped in even the smallest way to keep the fight going as long as we could.

For those of you who have chosen to share your pain with us in the form of a
song or poem, you have my admiration and gratitude. A special mention
should go to Bryan Hall, whose prose brought me to tears.

Lastly and most of all, condolences to Bob and his family for their loss.

For those interested, I've modified my own ferret page to reflect the latest
events, sad as they are. The URL is:

Play happily and in peace, Kodo.
