Actually, in my county in Virginia, the animals are cremated. A large
percentage of the nation's pets are cremated. If you don't know what
happens in your area - call up the animal control facility and ask them.
While you are at it, ask your veterinarian too.
If you don't like the response, then take up a cause and get the process
changed - talk to your mayor or county supervisor. Tell them you don't want
pets and road kill, especially with rabies a concern in many parts of the
country, rendered.
All animals need a dignified ending, after all, this isn't Soylent Green.
