In January of this year, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health
instituted a 10-day quarantine policy for ferrets, regardless of vaccination
history. MA had previously been a kill-and-test state.
The MA-DPH made its decision based on the MAF-sponsored shedding studies
completed to date. In our* dealings with them, they always said that they
would base their policy on science--and when they had the science, they went
with quarantine.
These shedding studies have already helped to change policy and minds.
