A while back, there was discussion on the FML about the amount of Vit. A
and Vit. D (both fat-soluable vitamins) in ferretone. At that time, I
contacted the company and talked to one of the heads of the research
department about this possible concern. He agreed that the amount of those
two vitamins was too high in the initial formulation, but that the amount
has been decreased twice.
Two years ago, I bought a bottle of ferretone. It has:
Vit. A 1812 IU per teaspoon (so about 1350 per 3/4 tsp)
Vit. D 312 IU per tsp (235 per 3/4 tsp)
The bottles on the shelf now have:
Vit. A about 1000 IU per 3/4 tsp (don't know exactly as I don't
have the bottle. also don't know how much Vit. D)
The bottle that the folks at 8 in 1 sent me, hopefully soon to hit stores
near you:
Vit. A 500 IU per 3/4 tsp - decreased 60% from original
Vit. D 75 IU per 3/4 tsp - decreased 70% from original
Of course, the amounts of most of the other vitamins and fatty acids has
been decreased as well. I suspect that the cut in the amount of Vit. A
and Vit. D was partially in response to consumer concerns, and partially
as a money-saving endeavor on the part of 8 in 1.
