I guess you were sending a personal note to Pat Ball - she's a friend of
ours here in the DC area. Thought I'd make a comment on the color part.
Silvermitt is ferret with white feet and any dark hairs being true black.
You describe a ferret that can be called any of silver mitt, light silver,
platinum silver, panda, pattern light, or dark eyed white pattern. Names of
colors are not very firm.
A panda ia a ferret with white feet and a white head basically.
A pattern light or dark eyed white pattern are show standard names for LIFE
and AFA respectively meaning any ferret which is mostly white with some dark
hairs.
Light silver and platinum silver refer to a silver that has roaned (the
fading of the dark hair) to the point where the ferret is mostly white.

When I was single and renting places with ferrets I explained that they are
litter box trained and live mostly in their cages. Maryland recently passed
a law that effectively puts ferrets on par with cats and dogs. This effort
(led by Diane Rogers) got a lot of coverage. Its amazing how often people
come up to us and tell us about the law even though they barely know what a
ferret is. This will help you.

Good luck. Cheap and near metro aren't common. Look toward Rockville
and even further North. I used to live in Twinbrook (Rockville) in a house
and up in Germantown. Had no problems with the ferrets.
