Yes, the amazing power of those cute little faces wins another round... Last
week we had rodent exterminators come by. We've got mice in the walls, and
the upstairs neighbor is the sort of person who shrieks and jumps on a chair
at the thought of mice. So, the landlord came in with the exterminator, and
we had one of those crazy half English, half French conversations that can
only happen in Montreal about possible dangers to the ferrets from the
poison being put in the walls. I kept insisting that we never saw any mice
(which we haven't, not since I blocked their holes up), but also wanted to
know what would happen if a poisoned mouse came out of the wall and a ferret
bit it. THe exterminator was really not taking me seriously at all, so
while he was putting poison in the basement, I went and found the nearest
ferret, who happened to be a very sleepy Cully. When the exterminator came
back up, I showed him Cully, who obligingly yawned cutely and waggled his
whiskers at the man, who promptly melted and changed his mind about putting
any poison in our apartment, even in the walls. Yay! Cully got extra
Linatone for a good day's work. Moral of the story is: cuteness will get
you everywhere.
