Dear Collective,
I thought I'd share a story with you and then ask a question.
THE STORY
Last week I had a pal staying with me for work related reasons. He was
staying in the extra room where I keep the computer, artsy crafty stuff, and
a myriad of other things. Its one my critter's favorite places cause of all
the STUFF. We have to keep a close eye on him when he's in here. Anyhow,
the work we had been doing had been keeping us up for 16 to 18 hours a day.
Why the long days? He was only here for 10 days and I had serious need of
his expertise.
Suddenly I heard a "Matthew! Matthew! Is it possible that Sherlock got in
here without his bell???"
I went to the living room and sure enough, Sherlock was in his hammock in
his cage curled up and sleeping as soundly as only ferrets can sleep.
I poked my nose into the computer room. My pal was looking around
frantically claiming there was something in the room with him. Of course I
was skeptical. I looked around. I looked under. I looked over. I looked
with a flashlight. Nothing. Well, he was sure that something had brushed
by the air mattress that he was sleeping on....a mouse or something.
"Didn't you once tell me that ferrets were bred as ratters?"
"Uhhhh yes", I replied.
"Go get Sherlock!"
Well, I went and got Sherlock...Anything to stop him from raving at 2 in the
morning over imaginary mice. Sherlock gave me an annoyed look and proceeded
to go to sleep in my arms. I put him down in the room, he looked at me like
I was insane. He nosed around for about 30 seconds, found that my pal's
luggage was open an proceeded to make a bed amongst his dirty socks and go
to sleep.
My ferret, mighty sock sleeper! Oh, and BTW....no mice in the apartment
either.
MY REQUEST
I am looking to adopt a second fuzzie to keep Sherlock company when Paula
and I aren't around. I would like to look into adopting from a shelter, but
don't know of any in my area. I live in Blacksburg, VA, which is close to
Roanoke. Any thoughts?
Cheers!
Matthew.
