Hey all. I was saddened to read that the new laws in Eagan (as posted in
the FML) have changed in a negative way for ferrets. I think that the
authorities should have more than one case to base their decision on, and
they should also consider the factors mentioned in the post (abuse, the
child not understanding how to handle a scared animal, etc). However, I
think we do ourselves a disservice when we try to compare our ferrets to
other animals and try to prove how much more often dogs (for example) bite.
Many of the people on the FML have multi-pet households and know that there
are groups of people out there rallying to keep us from having pets at all!
Not just ferrets. Have you noticed how hard it is to find a rented place to
live that allows pets? You can't take animals to many beaches/parks
anymore. Health laws prohibit animals from going certain places (I'm not
saying that health laws are bad). We need to try to promote the positives
of pet ownership, and hopefully our ferrets (and other animals) will be a
great example of what a good pet should be. I'm not flaming the poster
(sorry I forgot the name), because I agreed with many things said, I just
know that it wouldn't make me feel any better if dogs were illegal, too.
On a happier note, anybody have a ferret that likes to open venetian blinds?
Magkij does it all the time, he'll jump up on the couch, grab the pull on
the blinds, and let himself free-fall off the back of the couch, which opens
the blinds. I think he likes showing off for the neighbors...
