I must admit I just couldn't belive all the other animals that people
assumed Sylvester was (although the wool rug was by far my favorite). I've
found that here at WVU most people either knew what Loki was, or stopped and
asked and then thought that she was wonderful - having heard of ferrets, but
never seen one. And for all her hyperactivity, she always seems to slow
down and let strangers pet her - she's a pertty good fert ambassador.
But my downstairs neighbor several years ago assumed Loki had come in from
the wild to get in his trash can (after she had escaped my apartment) and
promptly deposited her outside, even though she was in a small bedroom trash
can that had only paper in it, just what the wild animals go for in New
Jersey I guess (No slam intended, I have friends from NJ, this guy was just
a not too smart New Jersian). Then the girls across the street told my SO
that they thought they saw a (ready for this?) opossum in my yard! Ok, now
Loki is kind of that color, but she only weighs 1.5 lbs! Geez!
Loki has managed to turn several people into ferret lovers. For instance my
SO who's previous experience was with a bitey ferret. He was distressed
that I wanted a ferret until I brought Loki home. Same for my old roommate.
Now she sends all holiday cards addressed to me and Loki. And my SO's mom
love her, and my grandmother (who at first thought Loki looked like a giant
rat) and on and on...
Just wish more people were open-minded about the cute little darlings!
Cheers
chris
Loki - Mom why is everyone looking at me?
