My two year old MF silver mitt, Pepper, injured his eye about 2 months ago.
We think he tangled with a cat and was scratched. I didn't get him to the
vet right away and when we got there (2 days later) he had what looked like
a milky white ball in or on his eye. The vet said it was ulcerated and had
gotten infected. She gave me Atropine to enlarge the pupil (so the ulcer
didn't 'stick' to the cornea, I think she said) and an antibiotic ointment.
After about 1-1/2 weeks, he seemed to be improving, and then suddenly got
worse (more squinting). She added a different liquid antibiotic.
I've been giving him one drop of atropine in the morning (she said to
discontinue if his other eye became dialated or if his heart was racing),
along with both antibiotics, and then both antibiotics (3 more times [i.e. 4
times a day] on weekends but only 2 more times during the week [I just am
not home enough during the week]). This has been going on for about another
2 months. I just ran out of the liquid antibiotic.
The whiteness in his eye has faded (less white) and gotten smaller (probably
25% smaller), and he's not squinting as much, but it's still there. He's
starting to show signs of stressing (his fur is a bit more jumbled than
usual and he seems a little more irritable ... he nips ankles more). Does
anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm taking him back soon, but wondered
what the vets on here might have to say?
Thanks,
