Melanie,
If your fert is eating well and his stools are OK and he appears to act
normally when awake (i.e. doesn't stumble, drool or shake uncontrolably)
then he's probably just fine. My ferts sleep about 50% of the time but
they do wake up whenever I'm in the room.
I've encountered this at pet stores before when I went to the "ferret pen".
I noticed one of them was sleeping, or so I thought. I went to pick him up
and he was like a rag doll. His head lolled from side to side and he was
totally unresponsive, even when I nudged him and shook him slightly.
I thought, OH NO!! THEY'VE GOT A DEAD FERRET!! I alerted the pet store
owner and went to show him the ferret which I was still carrying. When I
held the litter bugger up and said, "I think this poor guy is sick or dead."
His eyes popped open and ZOOM, he started to crawl up my arm to my shoulder.
I felt rather silly. The ferret was just fine. Just a heavy sleeper.
Matt
