>Help! I am at my wits end! Earl is sick and the vet can't come up with a
>diagnosis.
>
>Last Saturday night I put Earl to bed and he was the usual Demon Spawn that
>I love. Sunday Morning when I let him and his 2 cagemates out, Earl hung
>back in his hammock being a sleepy guy. I went over to take a closer look
>and he was as limp as a ragdoll, but awake. He couldn't walk. He kept
>falling over sideways like his legs didn't work at all (later on he did
>walk like he was uncoordinated and fell over after about a one foot
>distance) I was able to stand him in the corner and he could drag himself
>around and he would poop very little (twice very small, very dark with a
>green tinge, miniature little rice-looking beads in it, sticky). I
>rehydrated him all day and all night Sunday with Pedialyte (10ccs orally
>every half hour except between midnight and 6 am when I gave it to him
>every 1 and half hours) and took him to the vet Monday morning. The vet
>gave me clavamox drops, prednisone and nutrical to administer as well as
>the constant oral administration of Pedialyte. There was no change in him
>and he slept constantly. He had a 105 temperature. At this writing it was
>103-104 as per the vet. I brought him back on Wednesday and had them take
>him in and put him on IV fluids because I felt he wasn't being hydrated
>fast enough. I put 20 cc an hour of Pedialyte and he was putting out about
>half of that. I went back again tonight after 3 days of testing and IV
>fluids and there was no change, he still has a fever, has now lost weight.
>The vet said he had enteritis or proliferative bowel ??? (ulceration)
>Heliobactor Pilory induced gastritis with ulceration (I'm sure the spelling
>is wrong). I have a copy of his blood work if anyone wants to know the
>results. X-ray shows nothing out of the ordinary (no blockage) and the vet
>said the next diagnostic option would be an endoscopy. I have cleaned out
>my bank account and now have Earl at home on an IV. Thank God my fiance is
>a paramedic and can maintain the IV. IV is normal saline 25% dextrose 75cc
>a day over 12 hours. And now I'm giving him Pedialyte as well as
>Amoxicillin + Metro 1/2 ml 2x day. Nutrical every 2 hours. If anyone has
>any advice or opinions, please write me at [log in to unmask]
>
>Thanks...Dee & Earl.
