An anonymous poster asked about Advantage for the fuzzies--I have to say
that in the Hoh household this stuff is considered the greatest thing since
boxed raisins!
Late last year I moved in with my mother in order to save some $$ while
studying for the Va Bar (next week--eeek!). The fuzzies room here has
wall-to-wall carpeting and at one time was the home for several
flea-infested stray dogs until we got a shelter. Before moving in I cleaned
the carpet, bombed the room with an industrial fogger from the vet--TWICE,
and gave all the fuzzies flea baths. I left them there with mom for a week
while on vacation and when I came back there were literally HUNDREDS of
fleas on the ferrets. You could see them crawling all over Schnitzel, my 9
year old albino who was anemic from blood loss at that point. Needless to
say I was upset. Off to the vet, who discouraged Advantage because it
didn't say anything about ferrets and she didn't know what the chemical
would do. So I loaded down with about $80 worth of sprays, powders, foggers
and shampoos, and went back for war. I also tried Diatomacios earth (sp)
pennyroyal and eucalyptus oils, and seven dust. Three weeks later we STILL
had a terrible infestation, and those poor ferrets were going through daily
flea baths and I had bombed the room 2x more. Between anemia and all the
chemicals in the house, I knew that Schnitzel was on her way out, and since
I have several friends who used Advantage on their dogs with success, I said
what the heck, I've tried everything else. We've got 3 farm cats as well as
the fuzzies, and because money is a big concern here, I got the package for
the over 9 pound cats. I split one tube between the 3 fuzzies and one small
cat (one tube for the 4 of them) and split one tube between the remaining 2
cats. WITHIN 24 HOURS there wasn't a flea alive on any animal in the house!
I did have to retreat them all in 2 weeks instead of a month, but after that
second treatment I haven't seen a flea in the house. This stuff is is GOLD!
Needless to say, I highly recommend it. The only thing I did different with
the fuzzies than with the cats is put it on them under their front armpits
instead of on the back of the neck--I didn't want them wrestling and getting
a mouthful of the stuff. I really like this product--and the ferrets are
just glad those awful baths are over!
