Hello.  My name is Holly, and I live in Rhode Island.  My family and I
recently adopted two little fuzzies into our family.  Fidget was a
cream-colored sable, but he is darkening up quite a bit now.  And Cosmo is a
dark brown sable.  Both are MF males.  I have had many pets over my
lifetime.  I have never fallen so in love with any like I have with these
two little guys!  They are now 11 weeks old and already I have my first
"crisis." I think.
 
How is pepperoni on their little digestive systems?  I was making pizza when
the phone rang.  Up until today, they've never climbed up onto the counter.
When I came back, Cosmo belined it off the counter dragging the stick of
pepperoni behind him.  He did manage to eat quite a bit.  How harmful is
this going to be?  It's pretty spicy!!  He appears to be fine.  In fact, i
think he's pretty pleased with himself.  But, I'm worried.
 
That is my question.  Here is my comment.  I don't remember the name of the
person who was talking about their ferret possibly having pneumonia but they
didn't have the money to care for it.  This isn't the first time this has
happened apparently.  My fist suggestion would be to call every vet in your
area to try to find one that will work out a payment schedule with you for
the bill.  My second suggestion is that you don't steal anymore meds from
anywhere!  How much help will you be to your ferret from behind bars?  And
if all else fails, there is something that needs to be considered......
Sometimes in life we are blinded by our love for another person or,
er,....ferret. :)   We want what is absolutely best for them, but what is
best for them isn't what is best for us.  So we overlook that option.  Maybe
the best thing (and possibly the life-saving thing) is to give up your fuzzy
to a shelter where it can get care.  Maybe you can volunteer your time at
the shelter to help offset the costs of that care.  I don't know...it's just
a suggestion.  And, I know it's easy for me to say because it isn't me
making that decision.  But, it seems to me there are two options.  You keep
your ferret, try your best with make-shift remedies, and risk his death.
Or, you give him up and know that he is getting all the care he needs (And
know that you did EVERYTHING including the ultimate sacrifice to save him
because you love him).
