I am posting today, Monday-- to let everyone know how nicely things are
coming together for Gabriel. Things have been very hectic here at the
shelter since Gabriel arrived with shuttling him for x-rays and consults and
Trash and I have been in contact daily sometimes more often-- soo she has
been a great help in letting everyone know how things have been progressing.
Thanks for that Trish. What a time saver you have ben.

Gabriel is still greatly impaired, however two veterinarians have diagnosed
him with spinal chord trauma and NOT a degenerative spine. He may or may
not regain the use of his hind legs, but it will take some time and extra
work on the parts of his new (soon to be) Mom and the vets. We ( the
shelter folks) feel that at age 22 weeks Gabriel surely should have every
chance to play and be a happy boy.

Gabriel since being kept still ( we all know what this is like) and in a
confined area has shown diminished pain. That mean's he is feeling less,
much less pain. He must be very careful and so must I in handling him. He,
however is kissing and cuddling and seems very happy in his new situation.
His x-rays have already been forwarded to the new Mom and vet for evaluation
as they plan his rehabilitation program. We are very grateful that Gabriel
was brought here .. his outlook -- being pronounced a genetic throwback
would certainly have been euthanasia, now he has a great chance to be close
to normal. He will be guaranteed love and affection and all the care he
will require in his soon to be new home.

Gabriel himself will be a teaching ferret for Ferret Wise Shelter, much as
his predecessor Troubles was... photos and stories will urge owners that
unsupervised play and accidents can be costly both to owners and to the
ferrets. I would like to thank the donors who have supported Gabriel
thorough this injury experience. Shelter Dad and I chatted last night-- we
have to date received two donations and expect a few more in the mail. We
(Dad and I) decided that for those great souls who trusted in our work and
in helping Gabriel we should find a special way of thanking them. We are
taking some photos of Gabriel and Dad and I will (our own expense folks) be
making photo buttons and sending them off to those kind hearted folks, so
they can "see" Gabriel and know just exactly whom they have helped. We will
of course even after he travels keep you updated to his progress. And if
there are any pennies left after Gabriel is well--- we have discussed with
the shelter board of directors and will establish "Gabriel Fund" which
monies will be used solely for then next needy kid who needs specialized
care. It is the networking of the ferret community that allows our shelter
and others to save these little kids who would never have a chance. You all
are very special to be so supportive and allow no kill facilities like
Ferret Wise to continue.

Thanks from Ferret Wise Shelter
and Gabriel
