Just as Berret went over the rainbow bridge so did Ferry. She is the little
one the Ferry stories are about. Ferry was not a strong ferret to begin
with and ECE took its toll on her health as well as having adrenal surgery
late last year and had never fully recovered after the surgery. She ate
well but slept a lot and never played anymore. Saturday morning when I woke
at 3 she was still with us but at 5:30 she was gone. She had been sleeping
in the little wooden box by the futon so if she had made any sounds I would
have heard her. Her head was laying out of the box and she was cool to the
touch. I folded her in a blanket and placed her on top of the box. Clyde
came in and sniffed and found her, then gently pulled on the blankie till he
pulled her off. I watched as tears welled in my eyes. He ever so gently
pulled the blanket off of her and pulled it about a foot away from her. He
then went over and sniffed her and said his good byes. Shortly after he
left the room there was a parade of ferrets, all coming in to the living
room with one obvious intention - to say their goodbyes. Each one would
sniff Ferry and be still for a moment then leave the living room. It was
something to watch. Clyde had obviously told the others she was gone.
These little ones continuously amaze me. Their compassion overwhelming.

In tribute to Ferry I will try this year to find a publisher for her
stories.
