ferrets and salt water question.

Is it okay to let your ferrets swim in salt water?  We do alot of boating on
the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and wondered if it would hurt our ferrets to
swim in the water.
 
Also, do they make life jackets for ferrets?
 
We want to put the ferrets in the sand to dig and maybe find a small sand
bar where they can run and play and not get lost.
