Thank you for your comments. I certainly do agree with much of what you
expressed, and while I hesitate to rally against Marshall Farms, it is not
because I do not care about the killing of the animals, but rather because I
am 1) underinformed about the issue, and 2) working diligently on other
projects, and feel that if I concentrate on the legal matters within Kansas
FIRST, I'll be most effective.
Regarding the legal quarantine (a subject near and dear to my heart) - I've
forwarded a copy of your message and my reply here to the e-mail address you
gave for the gentleman who organized a legal quarantine in New Hampshire.
I'm willing to go knee deep in the Kansas legalization efforts, and am
looking for all the helpful information I can gather. I'm willing to meet
with professionals who will help our cause, legislators who may be recruited
to change the laws, and anyone interested in hearing my pleas.
In order to best approach the matter, I'd very much appreciate a list of
common objections. What kinds of questions/issues come up in these matters?
I want to be fully prepared to counter any disagreement with full
documentation. The first impression is the most important, and I want to
make sure that when they see me coming, they know I'm ready to answer any
questions, provide research and documentation, and respect me as a
professional who represents a group of intelligent, caring people.
I agree that any animal who accidentally, playfully, or ignorantly scratches
or bites a person should not be murdered. I also agree that people should
not be subjected to rabies. It would destroy my life if a member of my
family contracted rabies, especially if it were from one of the animals I
adopted in order to improve the quality of our lives and thiers.
I fully believe we can find a way to protect the innocent animals who are
being needlessly killed, while continuing to protect the innocent people who
trust our laws to protect them from illnesses and death. I am dedicating a
portion of my time to protecting both species.
The legal action committee of my local club is working on obtaining the
wording for all states which have adopted quarantine periods instead of
instant kill. If you have wording for such laws, please forward the text to
me or to [log in to unmask] Thanks!
Julie
