got it right. It will probably be much more usable if you are sure you are

OK, folks - I've only gotten back a few responses on this... you can see
which states are missing. If you live in a state that's not listed, PLEASE
help us out! Especially, remember to include the contact info (Q #5). Eric
(at Modern Ferret) has asked that I forward all results to them so they can
publish the stats.
Specifically, find out:
1. Does the state recognize the IMRAB-3 vaccine as being effective for
ferrets?
2. Do they require the rabies vaccination for ferrets, or is it up to the
owner?
3. Do they allow quarantine, or does the law say kill-and-test in any bite
situation?
4. If quarantine is allowed, are there any conditions attached - such as,
must be vaccinated, not a stray, etc. - and can quarantine be in-home
under certain conditions?
5. Contact info - name, address, phone and/or fax #, etc, for the source of
the info. If available, the date/bill #/etc of any legislation that
affects this.
RESULTS SO FAR (codes used):
1. Does the state recognize the IMRAB-3 vaccine as being effective for
ferrets?
Y = yes N = No X = hasn't ruled
2. Do they require the rabies vaccination for ferrets, or is it up to the
owner?
R = required O = optional
3. Do they allow quarantine, or does the law say kill-and-test in any bite
situation?
Q = quarantine allowed (# of days)
K = automatic kill-and-test
A = no quarantine; may require a signed affidavit to prevent testing
D = depends on the county
4. If quarantine is allowed, are there any conditions attached - such as,
must be vaccinated, not a stray, etc. - and can quarantine be in-home
under certain conditions?
C = no conditions V = must be vaccinated
S = not stray H = at home allowed if certain conditions met
J = judged on a case by case basis - ferrets may be unregulated in
D = depends on the county
5. Contact info - name, address, phone and/or fax #, etc, for the source
of the info. If available, the date/bill #/etc of any legislation that
affects this.

Many, many thanks to those of you who have contributed so far!
Once we get this finished, I'll make it available to anyone who asks... in
addition to those who've already offered web space, publishing, etc.... We
need to get this info gathered and distributed as widely as possible.
I know other folks are gathering other kinds of data... stats on how many
ferrets killed in a given time frame, and whether any actually tested
positive, for example. This is something that ANYONE can help with - even
if you feel like you don't have any other talents or abilities (I'm a lousy
public speaker! and I hate politics....). One of the biggest weapons we
have against ignorance and injustice is education - and that means we need
to have the facts. I look forward to the day when we can KNOW that our
ferrets - and our rights as their people! - are protected.
