She was surprised to hear they have nice kits?  Thats their reputation.  The
other stories are just bad rumors.  Unproven.
 
This pet store that takes in unwanted pets and finds them new homes is a
shelter.  They have as much credentials as most of the ferret shelters
adopting ferrets out of spare rooms.
 
Just shaking doesn't mean anything to us.  Some shiver longer to warm up
their metabolism than others.  We can envision all kinds of things but they
would be wide eyed speculation in this case.
 
Adopting older ferrets does often mean you have a much shorter time with a
ferret, it isn't for everyone.  Ferrets that go into shelters often have had
and often will have hard lives.  Despite the best efforts of shelters to
"qualify" adopters they often come back into a different shelter.  No
shelter is immune to this.  It is a very good thing to adopt ferrets that
have had such hard lives but they do seem to suffer from the stress and
might not have as long a life from the stress.

Ferrets do present neurological symptoms but after the very apparent crusty
paw pads, eyes, nose and such.

The confusion is that the breeder (who has no information - alarms) is
refering to the color of the iris.  You are refering to the color the eye as
a whole appears.  Look carefully and you will be able to see the blue iris
against the red of the inside of the eye.  Most DEWs and light patterns have
blue irises.  Most other ferrets have some green or brown color but they
appear black.
 
He'll stop growing at somewhere around 7 to 10 months.  The time to alter
him is when the testicles are dropping and starting to swell and his hygene
habits start dropping off.  You want to catch him just before he goes deeply
into rut.
