That's funny.  I live here, pretty much know German, and know no
Ferret-related words.  Most of the Germans I know have barely heard of
ferrets, and many had no idea of what they were when I said that is what my
pets were.  That's one for your report "Ferrets are so rare in Germany that
there isn't much to say."
