I have the first edition of A Practical Guide to Ferret Care by Debra Jeans.

In it, it says that ferrets should not have toys in their cages because they
could get hurt by swalling or chewing on them. However, the book is two
years old, so probably outdated. Could someone tell me whether this is true
or not? I figure perhaps she wrote it before ferret-safe toys were on the
market.

Pepita has a lot of ferret toys in her cage, but I wouldn't want to be
endangering her in any way should this be true.
