I have been going through the same hell with fleas in my gang.  We did
everything and the cat and ferrets were starting to get small scabs on their
skin from scratching, even with a bath every few days.  Finally out of
desperation we talked to the vet and agreed to use program on everyone, cat
and 3 ferrets.  The vet called the company and they said that although it is
not approved for ferrets it doesn't appear to harm them.  I have also heard
from a few people local and on the net that they have successfully used
program.  Apperently control can be used as well ?..
 
Since we started using it there has been a tremendous change in the "itch
factor" here. Although they aren't completely "flea-free' I see so few
compared to before that it probably won't be long before all is safe. The
meds were given about 2 weeks ago. So I am beginning to be impressed.

It depends on the by-laws in your area regarding tenants rights.  When I
lived in Montreal I never even told my landlords, even when the lease said
no pets, I brought in the ferret (one at that time).  He found out and never
made a fuss.  The law states that even if you aren't allowed pets the
landlord can't complain unless the animal proves to be a nuissances, as
defined by complaints, mistreatment...
 
In Vancouver, I have lived in University residences for over 3 years.
Including with my SO who was a DON (floor advisor).  Nobody knew except for
my friends.  We kept the cage in the spare room, and we're careful when
taking him outside to hide it till we we're off campus.  So if your careful
it is possible to live with a ferret and nobody knows.  Do check your legal
rights though if you get caught, a lot of cities will not allow a landlord
to evict you based on a ferret.  Many places have no regulations for a
"caged" animal.  Thats another way around.  Also some no pet places will
allow a cage.
