Hi Laura,
You wrote about your little one, Simon, not seeming to eat enough. Ferrets,
like humans, have a wide variety of metabolism rates. I have two hideously
active little ones, and one big, fat fur slug. The fur slug eats much, much
more than the active ones - and never seems to gain any weight. The little
speed demons eat much less, and never seem to change weight, either (except
come winter, when they pick up that "parka" look). Also, my big boy (the
slug) sometimes will go an entire day without eating - with no ill effects.
If the fuzz bean is active, healthy looking, and not losing weight - I
wouldn't worry. If he starts to drop the ounces, then there might be a
problem.
To wean him off of wet food, try putting linatone on the dry stuff. Nice
tip - but the stuff in an aspirator (like diet store use for salad dressing,
although any sparyer will do) to spray the linatone on really thin. That
way the food SMELLS like it's drenched in yummy stuff, but there isn't any
danger of vitamin A overdose. Once he gets used to his food being crunchy,
you shouldn't have any problems. Hope this helps!
Gwen
