Hello from Britain
I went to my vet's today and we got talking about Ivermectin and other
medication against parasites, and he mentioned that Frontline had brought
out a new treatment, a solution for SPOT ON application. It comes in
pipettes of 0.5 ml which contain 50 mg fipronil, and you apply the contents
at 2 points, one at the base of the skull and a second 2-3 cm further back.
The Frontline SPOT ON spreads rapidly from the site of treatment to cover
the whole surface of the animal within 24 hours and lasts up to 5 weeks.
After application, absorption of fipronil through the skin is negligible.
Is this safe for ferrets? What would be the dose for them? For cats it
says approximately 7.5-15 mg/kg.
How does it spread to cover the whole surface of an animal? How does that
work?
What is the difference to Frontline spray?
I was also wondering about different forms of Ivermectin. I know it's
usually injected but could you get it as a spot on application that is
absorbed into the body? I just thought it might be better for frail, thin,
old, poorly, small etc. ferrets or animals in general. No needle and no
pain.
I hope someone (vets?) can answer my questions... Thanks!
Love to all fuzzies out there.
Ulrike
