Regarding the New Jersey pet store incident. I have seen a pet store here
in town go from wire cages to aquarium's to wire cages and back. I haven't
asked why but assume they may be conflicted between a better situation for
the ferrets and bite possibilities which must be quite a dilemma for a
store. The only thing I can think of recommending to these stores would
take some effort on their part not to mention a handy employee. Build an
additional 5 sided wire mesh cage to sit OVER top of the normal wire cage
they are using. One that has enough allowance for long fingers. This is
the only way I can think of to allow for wire cages in pet stores but not
allow people to stick their fingers in. I suppose of you were handy you
might get farther by offering to help build the addition for them:)
On the adrenal/MF debate I don't think anyone wants to start a database on
adrenal diseased ferrets to soley(sp) point fingers as has been implied.
It's just something that needs to be started.
Saw the recent post from people in Japan requesting ferret info for their
vets. If memory serves me right it seems I remember seeing either an
advertisement or an article mention that MF had started shipping ferrets to
Japan, advertising them as the perfect apt pets. Anyone know anything about
this? I heard the same thing about prarie dogs later. Either way it would
seem sort of irresponsible to ship animals to a country with no
"infrastructure" (i.e. food, knowledge, general care info).
Mary, Boris and Giesela (in who's poop I just found part of some nylon's:(
