Michael,
Though I prefer break-away collars (use them on my cats), I find that they
just don't work on ferrets. The little buggers will do everything to get
them off! I get adjustable nylon ferret collars with plastic snap-type
buckles from a store here in New Jersey called NJ Pets. Sorry, I don't
remember the manufacturer of the collar, but if you want to call NJ Pets,
their number is (201) 515-8665.
Even with these collars, you have to make them pretty tight to begin with;
leave just enough room to slip your little finger between the collar and the
fert's neck. After they get used to wearing them, you can loosen it up a
bit--until the day they accidentally slip it off and get it in their head
that removal is possible, then you have to tighten it again for a while! I
don't worry too much about them getting hung up, because the plastic buckle
will come open with a really hard tug. Hope this is helpful.
