I was saddened to read the well-written story about "The $59 Ferret." And
what irony to think how much more than $59 it will cost the shelter or
anyone else to give the vet care, shots, etc., that the ferret will need.
I know this is not the important part of Alice's story, but could anyone
tell me more about the microchip? I know that info about a ferret's (or any
other pet ) home address, vaccinations, etc., can be encoded on a microchip
the size of a grain of rice and inserted subcutaneously, and that the chip
can then be scanned if proof of ownership or rabies status must ever be
proved. Is this technology widely available?
I don't know any place on Long Island capable of this. How can I learn more
about this? Thanks for any info.

Cody ("Microchip? Is it something I can hide?")
Dale ("Microchip? If Cody has it, I will try to kill her. If she doesn't
have it, I'll try to kill her,
anyway.")
Chip (" Microchip? Nah, I'm MEGACHIP !")
