Hello everyone!
I've hardly had time to even skim through the FML recently. I just happened
to catch that someone was wondering about Modern Ferret Issue #7. It should
be mailing out from Plattsburgh, New York, on Thursday or Friday (19th or
20th). It will take anywhere from 2 to 4+ weeks to arrive at subscribers'
homes (it goes third class mail).
Permits In NY
You do need a permit to keep ferrets in NY State. It is issued by the
Department of Environmental Conservation. Pet shops *should* give you the
application when you purchase a ferret (actually, they should ask to see
your permit *before* they sell you a ferret!). You can call the DEC and ask
them to send you an application, but don't tell them you've already got a
ferret -- some people there flip out on you if you admit to owning one of
those "wild" animals (you'd think you brought home a lion, for cryin' out
loud!). Anyway, it's $10.00 per year and is good for as many ferrets as you
want to have.
Hope this helps!
