Our Jake as a youngster (few months old) was definitely squeamish about
heights, although he doesn't seem much bothered by them now (3 yrs.  old).
I remember once he climbed on top of a lidded basket about 2 hands high that
sits on the floor.  Apparently he decided that it was too high for him to
climb back down.  I noticed a while later that he was still up there,
looking for someone to rescue him.  Also noticed that the height had
bothered him more than his need to use the litterbox as he had backed up to
the edge of the basket and pooped right over it!  Mind you, this is not a
big basket (and is still with us despite the attempts of the ferrets and
cats).  He got an affectionate rescue with just a few giggles.  We have a
very large cage (waist high for me) that Jake climbs on top of
occassionally.  When he gets up there he usually just goes to sleep till
someone gets him down.
 
I've noticed that ferrets that aren't as solid on their feet due to illness,
age,etc., tend to be more wary of heights - sometimes even when being picked
up.  Buck, our 1 yr.  old, is very strong but also very butt-heavy, so he
tends to be more cautious about his routes down so he won't go flying rump
first!
