I have a suggestion.  Donate the ferret to a known HIV-positive person.
Call up one of the local AIDS groups, tell them you have this ferret, you'd
like to place it in a good home - and see what they say.  Heck, they may
even raffle it off or something.
 
You'll bring a lot of joy to a terminally ill person, and the ferret will
get a home.
