I am a relatively new subscriber to the network, and I am very glad that I
tuned in when I did. My five month old silver mit, suprisingly enough,
named Hi Ho Silver (Silver for short) got hold of and chewed the rubber ends
off a set of Chums (the things that you use to hold your sunglasses on your
head when skiing...). She began throwing up and I knew something was wrong.
I have a very understanding Vet that came into the office Sat. afternoon to
have a look at her. She is learning about ferret care but was unsure if the
lump she felt was a foreign body or part of Silver. We decided to wait
overnight and see if the cat laxitive she gave me would help. While
fretting over Silver I requested the Ferret FAQ package and went through the
whole thing. Thanks to the information in the FAQ, information I gathered
though the newsletter, and the frantic destruction of my house to find the
remains of the offending object my vet and I realized that she had eaten the
chum ends and needed surgery. Silver now has a tummy that looks like a
zipper but she is eating and doing well. I live in a bush community in
Southeast Alaska and our options for human health, much less ferret health,
are often limited. I have given the medical chapters of the Ferret FAQ to
my vet to help her cope with the growing fuzzy population of Petersburg.
I want to say a BIG THANK-YOU to Pamela Greene and Bill Gruber. Without the
time and devotion you have put into ensuring ferret information gets out to
all those that want/need it, my little fuzzy might have crossed the rainbow
bridge.
Thanks again!!! jcl
