I also buy the clumping litter and the funny thing is the cheaper the litter
the better it works.  It has less dust is more granular and that means it
won't clog up the fuzzles butt.  I use it for my cat too so I go through a
lot.  There is a pet store by me that sells 28lb pails of this stuff for
7.95 and i buy 4 and geta 10% discount.  So far no problems and we have
Hendrix for about a year.  He doesn't dig or root.  He also goes in the
corner when no ones watching and he's out.
