I was just reading a post about "sponsoring" ferrets. I was wondering if
sponsoring ferrets is tax deductible. If it is, that means the shelter is a
nonprofit organization. Just out of massive curiosity, how many shelters
out there are registered nonprofit organizations? If you are, how much did
it cost you to become that way? We looked into becoming nonprofit and were
told that it would cost us around $1,000 through a lawyer. We cannot afford
that, as I'm sure most other shelters cannot. So, if you gained nonprofit
status in another way other than using a lawyer who specializes in that,
please e-mail me at [log in to unmask]

Actually, I would like to hear from all shelters who are nonprofit and how
they got that status.

Thanks for your information!
