Someone posted asking about what to do with ferrets and Christmas trees.
For the past few years, we've dealt really successfully with this. The best
suggestion I can offer is get a really heavy tree-stand and use mesh or
something to cover the water in the base. Trim the tree with unbreakable
ornaments or ornaments that are fuzzy-safe (and preferably ones that won't
upset you if they get chewed on or dropped from the tree), be extra careful
if you use lights...make sure your ferrets aren't prone to chewing on cords
and also don't turn the lights on when the ferts are around. Then...just
let them have fun! There's no law that says you can't ferret-proof a
christmas tree. Ours love to climb it, but only Edie can reach the top.
They like to sit on the branches and leap at unsuspecting humans. If you
can't ferret-proof the tree, try to put it in a ferret-free place in your
home. I think that some of the water additives for the trees are harmful to
pets. We've had to cut back on how many ornaments we'd put on the tree, but
there's nothing more in the spirit of Christmas than a few ferrets peaking
out of a pine tree and dooking happily. Good luck!
