I've been very depressed the last few days by the latest news from CA F&G.
It seems to me what is needed is some assistance from the general public.
Heaven knows the ferret community has worked long and hard, and made some
major headway, but F&G needs to know that the general public is watching
them too.
The only way to do that is by getting the news media to help. We've all
seen news stories on tv about abused or abandoned puppies and kitties that
result in hundreds of offers of adoption, though there are hundreds of
animals that don't make the news also waiting for a home and not getting one.
A story on CBS news right about now would be wonderful, especially if
presented in the proper light: ie, expensive governmental interference,
restricting personal freedoms, cute loving harmless fuzzies, etc. Instead,
CBS is doing stories on prairie dogs. (Some guy scoops 'em up with a giant
vacuum cleaner and sends them to Japan where they sell for $1000-2000. I
can't begin to tell you all the hackles that raised on my neck!)
Here are some suggestion I have:
Everyone in CA call your local newspaper and tv station to see if they are
interested in doing a story about a cute domestic pet that is an outlaw in
the state. If anyone is interested, be sure they contact CDFA and FA for
details.
Everyone anywhere call or write or email CBS and urge them to run the ferret
story by John Blackstone. Email addresses I've found on their web site:

Do these ideas make sense to anyone?
Linda
