I want to put in my two cents for those owners who do the best they can on
limited budgets and even more limited resources available to them.
 
I got my baby a year ago from my brother in law who brought him from out of
state and couldn't give him the time he needs.  (Thanks, Bro.  We love our
baby to pieces!)
 
Anyway, at the time, we were told to feed him Friskies Kitten Chow.  We have
done so and he's been healthy, bouncing and full of energy till we read the
FML and found out what foul creatures we are abusing his digestive and
immune system.  Immediately we went to every pet store, every feed store,
every pet department looking for "better food".  Out here in the sticks,
there ain't none!
 
We've worried about it for a few months and finally a kind soul sent me a
bag of 8 in 1.  My baby won't have anything to do with it even mixed in!  He
gives me dirty looks every time I go by his food dish and he takes great
pains to spit it out so he can eat the kitten chow.  Same angel got me a
sample bag of the Eukanuba.  Same story.  "Very nice, get it out of my bowl"
 
Now, the Friskies kitten chow has 35% protein.  Yes I know it has corn meal
first, but chicken is high on the list, too.  My fuzzybuddy has never been
one for chicken or any other kind of meat treats, I thought for sure the
raisin juice coating would entice him (he'll take you apart if he knows
you've got one on you).  No dice.
 
I honestly can't afford to buy a big bag of TF and have him turn up his nose
at that too.  I've called them and asked for a sample, just a few
tablespoons.  No dice.  I believe the company is doing us a disservice,
especially when ferrets are known for being finicky eaters.  They should be
willing to put out sample bags for say, $2 or something.
 
Okay, off the soap box.  All I wanted to say, really, is that some ferrets
are very happy on Friskies.  We owners are not bad people.  We DO care about
their immune systems, their coats, their bones and muscles.  Sometimes, you
can only do what you can do and if the fuzzybutts are happy and playing,
eating and pooping, can't we just leave well enough alone?
